Choosing the right mattress for your money is important, although many people don’t spend too much time selecting a mattress that is both comfortable and supportive. To avoid back pain and for pressure point relief, buyers should select their next mattress carefully.

Arguably one of the best types of mattress is the memory foam mattress. These mattresses feature memory foam which was originally developed to relieve the pressure that astronauts experienced when travelling into space. Due to the benefits this material possessed it soon became apparent that they would be ideal as household mattresses.

The main benefit of memory foam is the ability to adapt to body temperature. This allows the spine to remain aligned correctly during sleep and relieve pressure points that are often found when using other types of mattress. Memory foam is available in a variety of thicknesses, which effects how comfortable the mattress might be. A thickness of around 3 to 4 inches is recommended for most individuals, but be wary of cheap mattresses advertising 8 or 10 inch thicknesses. You may find that they are including other materials in this measurement rather than just the memory foam.

The range in price is largely down to the density. The higher the density often means the price is higher. This is because higher density means more pressure relief. Buyers should look for densities of at least 5lb in memory foam mattresses.

Another type of mattress that can be very beneficial to use is the orthopaedic mattress. Available using a number of materials (memory foam, spring, latex foam, or a combination), these mattresses provide excellent support for your back and spine during sleep. The back pain and tensions that a lot of people awake with can largely be put down to their mattress, but orthopaedic mattresses can help retain proper posture and get rid of these problems for many.

Having invested in a high-quality mattress you should spend a bit more money to make sure you get as much out of it as possible. One of the ways to do this is by using a mattress protector. This will help protect your mattress from stains, and also against allergens and irritants like bed bugs and dust mites. The price of mattress protectors is relatively inexpensive when compared to buying a new mattress so make sure you take steps to prolong the life of your mattress.
